JEM Fabrics Update

Just a little PSA today for my fellow New Yorkers: JEM Fabrics, one of my very favorite sources for super affordable velvets and trim (where I bought <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2012/01/custom-black-out-roman-shades.html" target="_blank">this trim</a>), is closing its doors this month. :( I'm so, so bummed for the very nice people that run the store (and also for myself).<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo IMG_0655.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album%205/IMG_0655.jpg" style="text-align: start;" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo IMG_0665.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album%205/IMG_0665.jpg" style="text-align: start;" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo IMG_3535.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album%205/IMG_3535.jpg" style="text-align: start;" /></div><br />For the next two weeks they are selling everything at a deep discount, including furniture they had downstairs in the upholstery section. I stopped by yesterday and bought five yards of this laminated black linen (above) for a dining chair project and I also ended up buying this vintage tufted sofa for $100.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo IMG_3537.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album%205/IMG_3537.jpg" style="text-align: start;" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo IMG_3539.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album%205/IMG_3539.jpg" style="text-align: start;" /></div><br />I don't need it, but it's comfy, and I've never been known to turn down a good piece of tufted furniture. I'm thinking it'd be pretty amazing reupholstered in a distressed black leather (I spied something perfect at <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2013/05/a-new-leather-source.html" target="_blank">my new leather source</a>). In the end, it might look a little something like this <a href="http://bit.ly/11aAzOW" target="_blank">Dwell Studio Chester sofa</a>.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo 92e6e86ba8fd37f023e1056603c74087.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album%205/92e6e86ba8fd37f023e1056603c74087.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i><a href="http://www.sfgirlbybay.com/" target="_blank">via SFgirlbybay</a></i></div><br />I passed on this gorgeous down-filled Baker camelback, which I'm regretting a bit. One of you should snag it though (also $100).<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo IMG_3530.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album%205/IMG_3530.jpg" style="text-align: start;" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I think it could look a bit like <a href="http://bit.ly/10OcPhZ" target="_blank">the Anthropologie Ditte</a> with a new upholstery job and a set of pretty <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2012/04/jazzing-up-cheap-chairs.html" target="_blank">brass caster cups</a>.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo 24347510_038_f.jpeg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album%205/24347510_038_f.jpeg" /><br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: start;">I did end up buying 15 yards of this gorgeous deep blue-green-gray mohair to reupholster my <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2011/04/layering-floral-pillows.html" target="_blank">LEE roll-arm sofa</a>. So, so excited for that to happen. </div><div style="text-align: start;"><br class="Apple-interchange-newline" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo IMG_3756.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album%205/IMG_3756.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo IMG_3760.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album%205/IMG_3760.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /></div>And now that my beloved JEM is going away, I'm feeling sadly short on affordable, interesting velvet sources. New Yorkers, am I missing out on any great places? Mood sometimes hooks me up, but all the other fabric stores in the garment district have left me empty-handed in the past when it comes to velvets. Trade fabrics are great, but sometimes there's just nothing like the hunt for something really one-of-a-kind feeling, you know?<br /><br />RIP, JEM. I'll miss you and your cool, worn painted plywood floors.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo IMG_0664.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album%205/IMG_0664.jpg" style="text-align: start;" /></div>

20x200 on OKL

I am such a huge fan of <a href="http://www.20x200.com/">20x200</a>, a really great and affordable online art gallery. <a href="http://www.onekingslane.com/invite/JennicaKomenda">One Kings Lane</a> is having a <a href="http://www.onekingslane.com/Product.aspx?l=00010920065500000000&p=2X201230">sale on gift cards</a> to the site right now. $59 for a $100 gift card. I know I would be thrilled to get one or two of these for Christmas! I might just pick up a couple for myself before the sale ends on December 2. (And if you need a One Kings Lane account, <a href="http://www.onekingslane.com/invite/JennicaKomenda">click here</a> to hook a sister up.)<br /><br />Here are some of my favorites on <a href="http://www.20x200.com/">20x200</a> right now. I like to <a href="http://www.20x200.com/browse/artist/">search by artist</a>. It gives you little thumbnails of all the prints available on the site.<br /><br />Very pretty day on <a href="http://www.20x200.com/art/2010/05/kite-hill.html">Kite Hill</a><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/2417_artworkimage.jpg" /><br /></div><br /><a href="http://www.20x200.com/art/2010/05/jump.html">Perfect</a> for that teenaged boy in your life! Love that inky blue.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/2397_artworkimage.jpg" /><br /></div><br />I love cheeky art. I decided to take the plunge and ordered two of these stools a couple months ago (right after we got to Brussels). There is a 4-6 week lead time and I wanted them to be delivered soon after we got back to Cambridge. A few weeks before we got home, I started to worry that the stools weren't going to fit under my console table, where I had planned to place them. When we got home I was so so bummed when my doubts were confirmed after measuring. I thought about just using them at the foot of our bed, but I cheaped out and ended up canceling the order. Maybe in my next house...<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXmJ8I33aR3bPsrjMCdAq_KwHV0ndHPigt6grGeOL6rInmwB39FODQHVXuPWqC4H6q00TCenGfT3BC8ZOAlwb3qX-x1lMqNqj0r8OOJNkG5Ae-kRzcP6wsCawRjR4hRqn-2iYMBcN9DeGD/s1600-h/Picture+7.png" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246283785173376226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXmJ8I33aR3bPsrjMCdAq_KwHV0ndHPigt6grGeOL6rInmwB39FODQHVXuPWqC4H6q00TCenGfT3BC8ZOAlwb3qX-x1lMqNqj0r8OOJNkG5Ae-kRzcP6wsCawRjR4hRqn-2iYMBcN9DeGD/s400/Picture+7.png" style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" /></a>When I canceled the order, I thought about just trading up for this <a href="http://www.ballarddesigns.com/comShop/customProdAction.do%3Faction%3DinitCustom?ruleID=2357&itemID=5785&itemType=PRODUCT&path=1%2C2%2C1443%2C1472%2C1670&iProductID=5785">48" Coventry bench</a>. I wanted to use it as a dining bench. I still think it would be perfect in our small dining area (the bench against the wall + three dining chairs), but I decided to be good and hold off. Besides, the week after we got back to Massachusetts was the Brimfield Antiques Fair (Anna, I thought of you the whole time). I scored a beautiful set of five antique dining chairs. $35 bucks for the whole lot. They are beautiful, but in bad shape. I have started the refinishing project and I'm really happy with how they are shaping up. I can't wait to share.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVRFwQBnbISH0PUCAzZV1jFEbrAD0iWTVcH9TUTKGPO6UL_gqEfudQmpysPAkzX1wK0mi8s6Eka3WSV0hl-jx1i4tI_7e5gKCn_aPpGrptt9CVq5ByTnvCNcEI2uRxT-tYhv5J3OjRU6dA/s1600-h/Picture+6.png" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246283592019683394" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVRFwQBnbISH0PUCAzZV1jFEbrAD0iWTVcH9TUTKGPO6UL_gqEfudQmpysPAkzX1wK0mi8s6Eka3WSV0hl-jx1i4tI_7e5gKCn_aPpGrptt9CVq5ByTnvCNcEI2uRxT-tYhv5J3OjRU6dA/s400/Picture+6.png" style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" /></a>I love this <a href="http://www.ballarddesigns.com/Furniture/Accent-Furniture/Marianna-Umbrella-Stand/p/5579?path=1%2C2%2C1443%2C1444&iProductID=5579">umbrella stand.</a> I scored a couple of antique umbrellas with really cool handles at the flea market in Brussels.
